Spoilers ahead for the new movie, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', which is coming to theaters in the United States August 4th through 12th. For information on how to get tickets and see it, keep an eye on dragonballz.com. The following is from a three-part one-shot manga drawn by Toyotarou and based on Akira Toriyama's script for the movie. (Toyotarou will be doing a manga adaption for Dragon Ball Super for V-Jump every month, as well, for those of you who prefer to read your Dragon Ball instead of watch it.)

Freeza is having a nightmare. A nightmare of the Super Saiyans Son Goku and Trunks Brief, who so humiliated him by defeating and slaying him. He, Freeza-sama, the strongest in the universe.

Damned by The Great King Yama-sama to an eternity of repentance in Hell, not even sleep is a reprieve from Freeza's waking nightmares.

In the realm of the living, Freeza's Army is still operation, but barely. Revolts on many of their worlds and unrest in their ranks have been rampant since Freeza and his father King Cold were put to death by the Saiyan Trunks. An ambitious but wholly under-prepared man named Sorbet has taken over Freeza's duties as ruler of the galactic crime syndicate once ruled by Freeza's family, but the endless in-fighting and rebellion has driven him to the brink. Unable to find where the new Planet Namek and the surviving Namekians are hiding in space, Sorbet has but one recourse: To go to Earth, where the other set of Dragon Balls are located.

With his Boss revived, Sorbet hopes to see the army put back in its proper state.

There Sorbet finds Pilaf, Shuu, and Mai who once again get wrapped up in a situation that is well beyond them. They summon Shen Long and Sorbet requests he revive his Lord, Freeza-sama. Shen Long says he can do so, but Freeza's body is in such a state from being sliced into pieces that it won't be a very pleasant life he'll be returning to. But Sorbet is confident in his army's regeneration technology, which is far beyond what put Freeza back together last time.

So Shen Long revives Freeza... in chunks.
Ew.

As the sky darkens in the way it only does for Shen Long, then brightens again as a strangely familiar ki leaves the planet, Green Grandad Piccolo has a bad feeling.

But look at lil' Pan!

Sorbet and his men take Freeza's remains back to their mothership, far away from Earth, where they begin the painful task of regenerating Freeza's body. Not everyone could endure such a procedure, especially with how thoroughly Trunks had killed him.

But Freeza has something so many others do not: It's Power.

Freeza-sama, the strongest in the universe, has been revived.

Then Freeza thanks his loyal men, whose names he hasn't deigned to remember, not even Sorbet's, by merc'ing a bunch of them.

I missed you, big guy.

While Sorbet wants Freeza to put down the revolts and retake control of the galactic syndicate his family once ran, Freeza has a totally different plan: He's going to train, for the first time in his life, so he can beat Son Goku's monkey ass into flakes.

That's right. Freeza was such a prodigy he's never once trained in his life. Indeed, he's never cared much about fighting. But in a strange twist of irony, to defeat a Saiyan, Freeza must become like one, and devote himself wholly to the improvement of his skills.

Four months later, Son Goku and Vegeta find themselves training as well. With Whis, on Beerus's world, to try and learn mastery over their new "Godly" ki. (Vegeta became a Super Saiyan God off-screen at some point between this story and Battle of Gods.)

They're probably training for the potential Beerus revealed at the end of Battle of Gods - that they live in the 7th of 12 Universes. I forgot to put that in my Battle of Gods write up, but there you go. There's 12 Universe, we've only seen the 7th, and Beerus wonders what kind of really strong guys are out there for he and the Saiyans to beat up.

Unfortunately for the Saiyans, they're no match for Whis.

Whis criticizes their speed. Plenty of power, but is often enough a trope on Dragon Ball, they've not enough speed to wield that power against their opponent.

He goes on to note how Vegeta is always one-step behind Goku. This is because he tends to think about his every action before he takes it, losing valuable time while his mind processes information when he could, like Goku, fight purely from instinct.

Yet Whis tells Goku that, on the other side of the scale, Goku is perhaps too relaxed when he fights, leaving him more vulnerable to deadly hits. While Vegeta would guard against a fatal attack, Goku might be so lost in muscle memory that a trick to his senses could cost him his bout, or his life.

But Whis doesn't want them to be discouraged. Not even Beerus has mastered this kind of fighting, yet. And he feels they're more than capable, as long as they keep bribing him with tasty Earth food.

Whis, you're moe as heck.

But all their noise wakes up the grumpy sleeper Beerus, who chucks a ki blast at them that nearly turns them into dust and does turn one of his world's stars into said dust.

After which, Beerus goes right back to sleep.

He's like every cat I've ever had.

Whis says it's no matter, as he can turn back the clock very slightly when Beerus loses his temper and blows up something he shouldn't, and put it back into place. When Vegeta and Goku gawk at what kind of guy can control time, Whis laughs and tells them, "I'm the lifeform Whis."

Back on Earth, Freeza has returned from his four grueling months of training, powered up and bringing a massive regiment of soldiers to aid him in his invasion of Earth.

Toyotarou did a really fun job with all the aliens in this picture. Have a look full size for yourself, but here's some returning races I've noticed.

A guy who belongs to Tapica's race.
One of these guys, who fights Bardock and another Kuririn knocks out on Namek, and is featured in the Sparking! games.
A survivor from Kanassa.
A member of Naise's race.
A Kewie-cousin.
A member of Aqua's race.
A Yardratian soldier.
A member of Yakon's race.
One of these guys, like Appule and Orin.
Abo and Cado.
One of these old elf guys.
A Plantling from proto-Planet Plant.
A guy who looks exactly like Ledgic, from an episode of DBGT.
Both Cavira and Toobi-looking guys.
And this dude who is just Nappa.

To battle against Freeza's invasion army assembles the strongest of Earth's fighters... Muten Roshi, Kuririn, Piccolo, and Tenshinhan... The Bald Squad. Also, Gohan is there.

Yamcha and Chaozu were left behind because Ten deemed the fight was too dangerous for them, Goten and Trunks were left behind because their moms didn't want them causing trouble, #18 is left looking after Marron, and Mr. Boo is having a nap.

And how could you wake up such a sweet sleeping face?

But Freeza has eyes only for Son Goku, so he sends his mooks after the Bald Squad and Gohan.

Oh, and Bulma is there in cute mom jeans with Jaco from that other comic.

Now it's time for the most metal shit to happen in Dragon Ball since... shit, probably since Trunks punched that hole in Gokua's chest.

THE EARTHLINGS FUCKING SHIT UP.

At length, Bulma contacts Goku and Vegeta, telling them of Freeza's return and invasion. So Goku can use his Instantaneous Movement to bring he and Vegeta back to Earth, the Earthling fighters raise their ki to maximum.

Fuck yeah.

With that, Son Goku and Vegeta arrive on the battle field!
Holding hands, no less.
(Gay.)

Freeza graces the battle field himself, and immediately transforms into his fourth form. Then Goku steps forward, and the rematch years in the making has come at long last.

After taking and returning every blow back at Freeza and blasting him with a mighty Kamehameha, Goku asks him if this is really all he has to offer.

But of course, dear readers,

This isn't even his final form.

(To be concluded... in the movie... which is still running in theaters as of this post so go catch it if you can.)

Spoiler: Boo wakes up and turns Freeza into choco and they feast on Freeza chocolate. (It's white chocolate.)
