Top Dragon Ball Z ep 289 - Grandpa Goku! "I Am Pan"!! by Top Blogger
Ten years ago, Trunks and his friends fought against the fearsome beast called Majin Boo. Though those events only took place over the course of a few days, they shook the very foundation of the universe itself. Since then, Trunks has seen invaders from space, fought Gods, and witnessed the birth of the Super Saiyan Gods. But these days, the Earth has settled into an undisturbed era of peace. Today, on the eve of the 10th anniversary since Majin Boo first wrought havoc on Planet Earth, Trunks is flying to Mt. Paozu, to visit his best friend Son Goten.
But a Capsule Plane is no way to fly when you're a Saiyan!
Trunks lands at the much expanded Mt. Paozu, where the now family of six live in two houses (plus Son Gohan Sr's modest cottage). They even have roads, now!
He greets Chichi,
Son Gohan,
and his wife, Videl!
Gohan has become a full-time scholar as his mother always wanted for him (since his books are all by Darwin, I'm guessing his main field is biology... but he also has a copy of Jump and a book about Arale on his shelf, so he must have gotten a taste for manga after all that time with ODB), while Videl's job isn't mentioned (I'm guessing she still fights crime, though). They tell Trunks that Goten is off training with his father and they left early this morning.
While on the TV, Mr. Satan promotes tomorrow's 28th Tenka-ichi Budokai! He promises an opportunity to challenge the champion of combat sports, himself, for anyone brave enough to enter!
"Papa is so embarrassing..." Videl laments.
It's true the world thinks he saved the Earth yet again (three times so far, if you take Bojack into account), but thanks to Shen Long no one is quite sure from what. (Didn't stop Satan from opening a hotel in celebration of beating Majin Boo.)
Out in the greenery near Paozu, Trunks' friend Goten trains with his father, the patriarch of the Son clan...

But poor Goten is simply no match for his pops.
"We're both suffering from how weak our children are, eh?"
Vegeta and Bulma have arrived, shortly behind Trunks.
Bulma is mad at Goku for his lack of consistent visits.
But Goku is more fascinated by how much she's aged.
Goku, you rude as fuck.
Vegeta explains that, as a Warrior race, Saiyans remain in the peak of their youth much longer than other races, so they can fight longer. Exactly how long a Saiyan's lifespan is, he doesn't say... but I suspect few enough Saiyans have had natural deaths that no one actually knows. Bulma, on the other hand, must contend with age as every other human... or not, since she says she'll just ask Shen Long to make her younger, next time.
"Your skin will feel magnificent."
Goku and Vegeta get to talking about tomorrow's Tenka-ichi Budokai and Goku's intent for himself and Goten to enter. (Goten doesn't want to enter - he had a date for tomorrow, but Goku says he can go on a date any ol' time.) Vegeta doesn't believe it's simply for the sport of it, and Goku confesses that there's a really strong guy who will be entering that he wants to fight. Vegeta thinks he means an alien, or perhaps an Artificial Human. But Goku says he's just a regular ol' human. Fascinated, Vegeta decides to join as well.
Vegeta tells Trunks he has to enter as well.
Suddenly from the sky, blazing like a streak of lightning, comes Pan -- Son Goku's granddaughter!
She's four-years-old, but according to Goku, she's the one around Paozu with the most guts!! (Hinthint winkwink his sons are Saiyan failures.) She's just arrived back from flying entirely around the world, and when Goku comments on her speed being quicker than normal, it's clear that she practices such flying regularly when training with her Gramps.
And tomorrow, she'll be entering the Tenka-ichi Budokai! Since the Junior Division was disbanded (likely because Trunks and Goten, and Videl before them, made everyone look like chumps and it took too much time from the real fighting), she'll be fighting with the adults. And her Gramps likes her chances of placing high!
The friends say their goodbyes and, the next day, the Son clan goes to the Tenka-ichi Budokai.
Since they've arrived so early, Pan wants to take Gramps to see the festival outside the stadium.
What we get is pure cuteness.
When a boy knocks down Pan's ice cream, Goku gives his to her - and he's just grateful Pan didn't turn the boy's bones into jelly with a single punch.
Trunks, Vegeta, Bulma, and three-year-old daughter Bra arrive.
As well as Oolong, Puar, Muten Roshi, Yamcha, Dende, Kuririn, Marron, #18, and Piccolo.
Goku greets everyone jovially, and Kuririn criticizes Goku for not visiting more often. Goku wonders if Piccolo is going to enter, and Piccolo thinks it's probably best if he sit this one out and sees how much stronger the Saiyans have gotten... from a safe distance.
In their private dressing room, Mr. Satan and Mr. Boo discuss strategy and relax as their dog Bay has a nap. They'll be employing the same strategy as the last two Tenka-ichi Budokai, of course. Boo will become the Challenger Champion by winning the tournament, and then throw the match against Satan in the final Champion vs Champion bout. Boo will pull his punches too, so no one gets so frightened they stop entering. (Boo doesn't seem to mind, since the tournament grounds provides all the free food he can eat. And we know how bad he is with money.)
Suddenly, Bay wakes up from his nap,
as Goku and Pan have come for a visit!
Satan greets his good pal Goku happily, but he's most excited to see his cute little granddaughter, Pan-chan~!
Cutest dad just upgraded to cutest granddad.
Boo and Bay are happy to see their old pal Goku, as well.
Goku tells Satan how they'll be entering the tournament but, not to worry, if any of them become Challenger Champion, they'll throw the match against him. (But this means Boo doesn't have to pull his punches anymore!)
Goten and Trunks, meanwhile, still do everything in sync.
(I guess that's what happens when you merge so often.)
As friends of Mr. Satan, the Dragon Ball Gang are given the "best seats" in the house... ringside!
Which they all find a little... exposed.
So they get new seats in the judge's box.
(Aww, look at wee Bra.)
That's when a familiar face enters the ring...
Mr. Announcerman himself!
And he introduces the 16 12 fighters who have made through the preliminaries:
Gangis Khan.
The Incredible Battle Cock.
Y: The Last Man.
Mr. Slave.
Justin Timberlake.
Oob.
Son Goten and Trunks.
Pan and Mr. Boo.
Son Goku.
Vegeta.
(Mr. Boo has fangirls, too.)
Which is the human Goku wants so desperately to challenge?!
(I think we all know Mr. Slave wants to get sweaty with the Battle Cock.)
