Story
Videl can't believe it. This strange group of folks have shown up to the 25th Tenka-ichi Budokai, and all of them easily broke Mr. Satan's Punch Machine record, with the final one in navy blue punching the whole thing apart. Then she's even for an even bigger shock when the strange group walks right p to them.
Goku and Kuririn say hi to Videl (Goku correctly guessing she's a girl)
then tell Gohan they're off to watch Goten and Trunks fight in the Junior Division.
Videl is floored.
"You know those people?!"
"Yeah, that's my dad."
"Which one is your dad?"
"All of them."
Goku and the others make their way to the stands. Immediately, they notice how much bigger and more spectacular everything is, compared to when they used to fight in it. Piccolo goes on to call it nothing but a frivolous show now.
(Hipster.)
Regardless of our heroes feelings, the crowd roars in excitement as Mr. A calls out the 24th Tenka-ichi Budokai Champion, and World Champion of Combat Sports himself... Mr. Satan!!
Graceful as always.
But they still love him.
Back stage, Goten and Trunks discuss what they want to do with their prize money. Goten wants toys and candy, which Trunks finds awful immature. But when pressed, Trunks isn't sure what he wants.
Then Mullet Kid arrives to throw shade, a 14 year old boy who Trunks will fight first.
In the stands, Mullet Kid's mother and Bulma throw even more shade.
But the proof is in the pudding, when Trunks beats him with ease.
Next up, Goten has to face Mullet Kid's brother.
Which causes even more arguing between Bulma and Mullet Mom.
In the ring, Mr. A recognizes Goten at once for who he is.
... and unlike everyone else, isn't surprised when Goten wins in one punch.
Up in the stands, Mullet Mom finally lashes out at Bulma,
but Chichi puts her down in one punch, too.
One Punch Mom is my new favorite anime.
After blasting their way easily through the rest of the competition, no one is surprised to see the final match come between Son Goten and Trunks. But no one except for their family and Mr. A could be prepared for the awesome battle that was to come!
A fast-paced, high flying battle the like the Papaya Island hadn't seen since Son Goku and Piccolo Daimao fought, two decades ago.
And the crowd loves it.
Mr. Satan much less so.
And Videl utterly shocked by how casually Gohan and his dads take it.
But end the end, there can only be one winner.
And his name is Trunks!
"Sorry Kakarotto, looks like my son is from better stock."
(This is the most genuinely happy Vegeta has ever sounded.)
(Goten is much less so.)
Mr. Satan, recognizing their faces and techniques from those strange men back at the Cell Games, braces himself for the embarrassment of his career -- as it's up to him to fight an expedition bout with the winner of the Junior Division!
Somewhere, faraway, at the edge of Time and Space.
"Something truly wonderful is about to happen..."
What's cut?
So much. I know it'll change once the Boo Saga proper kicks off, but man, these five episodes have had some of the most brutal cutting of anything in Kai since the early Saiyan Saga.
DBZ 210, the infamous reenactment of the Cell Games is cut.
Goku likes it.
Also, the animators sneak their names into English as the credits.
We then see a lot more of the other kids trying, and failing, to have good matches.
DBZ 211, Gohan is stuck much longer in line for the Punch Machine with Videl.
Trunks doesn't bother watching Goten fight Mullet Kid 2, due to his utter confidence in him.
And we see much more of the kiddos dominating the tournament, to their mothers' delight.
And in both 211
and DBZ 212, their fight has a lot more to it.
Furthermore, in DBZ 212, Mullet Mom chews out Mullet Sons.
And Goku, Kuririn, and Vegeta talk shit over Mr. Satan.
Leaving Videl to wonder what kind of incredible guys Gohan's dads really are.
