Top Dragon Ball Kai ep 1 - Prologue to Battle! The Return of Son Goku by top Blogger
Here it is, the first episode of Dragon Ball Kai. Now, you might be asking, "Hey, doofus, didn't you do this episode already?" To which I'll say yes, and wow, hurtful. See, back in July and August, I wrote seven episodes worth of posts for Dragon Ball Kai, but when it came down to do episode 8, I found myself unable to do it. Kai was always going to be strange - I knew that from the outset of starting this blog - because it's a reedit of Dragon Ball Z. I already did every episode of Dragon Ball Z. So, instead of doing the exact same thing but a second time, I'm going to play with the format a bit for Dragon Ball Kai. Lemme know what you think.
So anyway, Dragon Ball Kai, episode 1 - Original featured in Dragon Ball Z episodes 1 (Mini-Goku is an Overprotected Boy! "I Am Gohan"), 2 (Dragon Ball Z ep 2 - The Mightiest Warrior in All of History is Goku's Older Brother!), the first TV special (Dragon Ball Z: A Final Solitary Battle ~The Z Warrior Kakarotto's Father Challenges Freeza~), and various episodes of Dragon Ball.
What are the episode bullet points?
Bardock makes his final stand against Freeza.
A brief montage of Goku's exploits during Dragon Ball is shown.
Son Goku and Son Gohan head to Kame House for a five year reunion.
Goku's brother Raditz, an alien Saiyan warrior from space, happens to show up that day (some coincidence, eh?), and reveals that he knows Goku.
And he tail slaps Kuririn.
What is cut from the episode?
Virtually all of Gohan playing in the forest is cut, which takes up a good amount of DBZ episode 1. I mean, seriously, go rewatch it - it's like 10+ minutes of Gohan dicking around in the forest with that Sabertooth Tiger played by Daisuke Gori. Essentially nothing is cut from episode 2 of DBZ, and this episode only uses the first chunk of it anyway. Obviously, the vast majority of the Bardock special is cut. (Really, they just squeezed in Bardock because Toeiyama will milk Bardock until he is a dried up husk.)
